Meet the family

Rachel, John & Hannah- Christmas 2012
Hi!  Welcome to Our Blissfully Delicious Life.  I'm Rachel and it just so happens that I love to cook.  I have as long as I can remember.  I don't really know where my interest comes from but I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that I love food!  And I love to eat!  It's a good thing that I've learned to like to run too...

Thank goodness for the Food Network.  Seriously.  And all the cooking shows that were on television before it.  I have learned so much from them.  Maybe it is just the way that I learn but seeing the complete process of a recipe makes it so much less daunting than reading 2 pages of cook book.  That is exactly why I always try to post pictures of every step of my cooking process.  It may seem a tad obsessive (Have I mentioned that I am OCD?)  but my goal is to show just how simply it can be done.  Trust me, nothing I cook is complicated!  As Julia Child said, "You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces- just good food from fresh ingredients."
Dinner at the Angus Barn- Feb 2013
I am a mom to an amazing 6 year old little girl.  Hannah is my baby, my partner in crime, my play mate, my kitchen assistant and my pickiest taste taster.  She may look more like her Daddy but she acts just like her Mommy!

I have an awesome husband, John, who happy eats all of my culinary adventures.  He might be the only other person in the world that enjoys food and eating as much as I do.  He loves to watch food tv (As long as there isn't an important game on!) and scouting out new things for us to try in magazines and cook books.  He enjoys cooking as well, mostly outside though as he generously lets me be the 'Head Chef' in our kitchen.  He makes the best BBQ, and being in BBQ country, that is saying a lot!  For people outside of NC- I'm talking smoked pork, slowly cooked, chopped & doused in a vinegary (Eastern NC style) sauce.  It is truly the best I've ever had- and I've been around the stuff my whole life.  He grills, smokes, and he does all the deep frying.  He also does all my 'dirty work'- he scoops the guts out of the cavities of turkeys or chickens and all the other yucky kitchen tasks that I don't like to do.  He patiently waits for his dinner while I try to take the 'most perfect pictures ever' before he can eat it.  Which more often than not, is cold by the time he gets it.  Most impressively, he helps keep my kitchen clean as I cook.  He also does the dishes and cleans up after just about every dinner!!  He is the BEST 'Sous Chef' ever!  We live in North Carolina, where I have lived for pretty much my whole life while.  John is originally from Oneonta, NY, he's been in NC for 13 years now.
John & Hannah at Kanki- Nov 2012
Thank you for visiting our little blog.  It is a work in process- in so many ways.  I really appreciate every one's encouragement and patience!  I'm learning a lot as it grows- not just about food, but web design and photography too! (I know, crazy that I didn't realize I would need know that to blog!)  I hope that you will find something here that inspires you to try something new...I know how easy it is to get stuck it a rut making the same meals week after week.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask- and I love comments so keep them coming!  It lets me know that someone is actually reading this stuff.  :)
